The Police Jury is the governing body of West Feliciana Parish. They meet as a group on the second Tuesday of each month at 9:00 a.m. at the Policy Jury House (behind the courthouse) in St. Francisville, Louisiana. The jury is responsible for the construction and maintenance of the parish roads, water system (except the system in the Independence Community), solid waste collection, funding the parish health unit and building and maintaining parish buildings (except schools) which include the courthouse complex, the parish jail and the other facilities that are not governed by a sub-division of the jury. The jury collects annually $5.9 million dollars from taxes for solid waste, the communications district, health unit, road fund, and the general fund. The Jury also serves as the final authority in zoning matters.
